Arsenal V Chelsea

Monday Night Football comes live from the Emirates and its a Christmas Cracker!! Arsenal have the chance to go top for Christmas but they have the small matter of Jose Mourninho and Chelsea standing in their way.

Arsenal will want to get back on their feet quickly after last weekends humiliation at Man City. After their 3rd defeat of the season Arsenal can now feel the rest of the title challengers breathing don their neck and if they fail to beat Chelsea it’s more than likely that Liverpool will be sat on top of the tree this Christmas. Arsene Wengers men have been magnificent this season but its these games where we see if they are truly capable of going all the way, last weekends performance suggested they’re not so Wenger will want to put that right with the visit of Chelsea on Monday.

Chelsea are currently just 2 points behind Arsenal and could also go top for Christmas should Liverpool fail to beat Cardiff. After crashing out of the League Cup on Wednesday, Jose Mourinho has publicly stated that he isn’t happy with his strikers (probably shouldn’t send your best one out on loan Jose) after they have only managed 13 goals in all competitions between them this season. Mourinho will no doubt be buying in January but I don’t think he’ll be too concerned should he get a win on Monday night. Mourinho saw his side win 2-0 here earlier this season in the League Cup so that will bring added confidence to his side.

Arsenal are without Jack Wilshere after losing his appeal over a 2 match ban following the gesture he made at the Etihad last weekend, Santi Cazorla will more than likely slot straight in. Theo Walcott should remain in the starting 11 after 2 great goals last weekend. Chelsea should stay with Torres up front but may recall Lampard in place of Michael Essien.

Last season a Gervinho strike wasn’t enough for Arsenal as Juan Mata and Fernando Torres scored in a 2-1 Chelsea win. I am expecting Arsenal to come out and attack Chelsea from the off and get the win which will send the Gunners top for Christmas with Walcott and Ozil to get on the scoresheet.

Who to Watch

Arsenal: Theo Walcott – back in the side, and back in the goals.

Chelsea: Eden Hazard – Chelsea are very reliant on the creative Belgian.

Last Season

Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea

Arsenal 3-2 Chelsea
